Pizarro-Gasca collection, 1537-1580.

The collection consists of letters, manuscripts and documents (all in Spanish) documenting the early history of Peru, from Franciso Pizarro's civil war with Almagro to the pacification of the country by La Gasca. It includes material pertaining to the Catholic Church in Peru, missionaries, the conquest of Chile, Indians of Peru, and Indian slavery. There are materials regarding the cities of Arequipa, Cuzco, Lima, and Quito. Of note are letters and decrees of Charles V and Philip II, letters of the Pizarros, reports of La Gasca, and Pedro de Valdivia's account of the conquest of Chile.
